Choreographer and dancer Øyvind
Jørgensen concentrates
on an expressive and dynamic approach to dance.
He has long experience as a dancer and choreographer
and has been a central part of the modernist/experimental
dance scene in Norway.
He is also an experienced teacher and has been awarded
the Norwegian Governments three year work scholarship
to develop his work. Today he runs his own production
company Ø. J. Productions, and works as a freelance
choreographer.
He is currently touring his successful solo performance
Songs Of The Last Hour, and his latest work - a full
length piece for three performers, Manøvrering
I Kupert Landskap (Manoeuvring in a rolling landscape).
His main sources of influence have been his studies
at the Martha Graham School, as a performer with the
Martha Graham Ensemble, Butoh and European contemporary
dance. Through a synthesis of these different experiences
and techniques Jørgensen has developed a strong
personal form of expression.
The solo piece Songs Of The Last Hour-97 marked a breakthrough
in his work as an independent choreographer. With Manøvrering
I Kupert Landskap 99 - with specially composed music
by Petter Wiik, Øyvind Jørgensen has become
one of Norway's leading choreographers.
